An air of jubilation and exuberance seemed to adorn Delhi World Public School, Noida
Extension on 18 th January 2020. Colourful flags were hoisted, and red carpet was rolled out
by the school as it organised its First Annual Sports Day – ‘SportsFiesta’- a magnificent
sports extravaganza filled with fervour and excitement experienced amidst great mirth, verve
and camaraderie where the students manifested their sports skills with impeccable expertise.
The celebration of Sports Day was more apt as it kept in mind the vision of the ‘Fit India
Movement’ launched by honourable Prime Minister. The school thus endeavoured to live up
to the motto of “Ek Bharat- Shreshtha Bharat”. The occasion was graced by the Chief guest,
Mr Venkat Sundaram, a legendary Indian cricketer and a selector for Delhi and Pitch
Committee Chairman for the BCCI. The other dignitaries and luminaries present on the event
were Mr Neeraj Pandey – District Inspector of Schools, Noida, Mr. Anadi Barua- Former
Head coach of Indian National Women Senior Team, Mr Nitin – Head of Decathlon Sports,
Justice Bhanwar Singh and Mrs Shashi Singh.
The event was also graced by the esteemed Management members-Honourable Chairman-
Mr Vipin Sahni, Chairperson- Ms Kiran Sahni, Directors –Dr Saiyyam Sahni ,Dr Rohit Singh
and Mr Aman Sahni. The Principal, Ms. Jyoti Arora accorded a floral welcome to all the
distinguished guests present for the grand event. The day started with the hoisting of the flag
followed by the release of colourful balloons and splendid Inter-House March Past, a grand
spectacle of colour, rhythm and precise synchronization and a highly competitive event
where the four houses eyed for the first place . The best march past Rolling trophy was
awarded to the Narmada house. The Principal along with the esteemed Directors lit the
ceremonial torch. The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the
oath administered by the Head Girl. The audience next witnessed the riveting display of
aerobics, yoga and mass drill symbolizing alternative sources of energy. The students also
exhibited their Karate skills mesmerising the audience with their energetic I to XI in gala
items including Sprints, Relays, Sack race, Skipping race and Lemon and spoon race
throbbed the ground receiving thunderous approbation for their superbly breath- taking
performances. Fun time with parents in balloon race and a Tug- of- war added charm to the
event. During his addressal, the Chief guest encouraged the students to strive for the best by
identifying one’s uniqueness and potential in order to contribute positively to society. He also
stressed on the importance of sports in a students’ life and explained the true meaning of
sportsmanship. The Principal ,Ms Jyoti Arora also took to the podium to address the students
and guests and enlightened them on the need for the holistic development of children in
today's competitive world. She presented the Annual Report and thanked the parent fraternity
and her staff for their unstinted support and encouraged the students to keep up their
sportsman spirit. The day’s attraction was the Prize Distribution ceremony where all the
winners were felicitated for their outstanding spirit of sportsmanship .The grand finale was a
visual treat of amalgamation of sports and cultural bonanza presented by the versatile
students of DWPS. The event concluded with rendition of the National Anthem by the
audience.The students and the guests departed with a clear smile on their faces .It was a day
filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish !
